Top 5 Mother's Day getaways

Top 5 Mother's Day getaways

Guest WriterxTue May 09 2017

Washington Irving once said that “A mother is the truest friend we have”, and how true is that! Our Mother’s are always there for us. They are there at 2am when we’re crying on the phone, they are there with tea and toast at 8am when we’re sick, they are there on the happiest days of our lives, they are there whenever we need them. They never fail to put us before themselves, so this Mother’s Day turn the tables and treat your Mum to a beautiful getaway.

Waihi beach

waihi beach cafe

Auckland, Tauranga, Hamilton – wake up early, pack a picnic, grab your Mum and head out in the car to the beautiful Waihi Beach. The ideal location for every type of Mum. Take a relaxing stroll on the beach, have a coffee at the lovely beach front Flat White Cafe and peruse the boutique shops in the main street. Looking for something a little more outdoorsy? Pop on your walking boots and follow the well kept track over to Orokawa and Homunga Bay, maybe even sign Mum up for a surf lesson and finish with dinner at the Waihi Beach Hotel Bistro.

Take all of Mums essentials in a Lipault Medium Weekend Bag. Shop here!

Wanaka

wanaka lake

Lower South Island? I know my Mum would LOVE Wanaka! This beautiful part of the country, once again, offers something for everyone. A bustling little town with a beautiful water front, plenty of lovely little cafes (Beanie is my favourite, but I may be biased as it is my dogs name!), unbelievably stunning walking tracks, Mountain biking routes and scenic drives. Treat Mum to a day out this Mother’s Day that she will talk about for years to come!

Take all of Mum’s adventure filled day accessories in a new backpack from luggage.co.nz. Shop here!

Picton

picton harbour

You may recognise Picton as merely a port on your way to and from the South Island, but it is so much more than that. The bay is scattered with beautiful, easy walks that every Mum can appreciate. Walk out to Shelly Beach and Bobs Bay for an unbelievable view. Drive out to Shakespeare Bay and explore the Queen Charlotte Drive, Picton is a picturesque paradise that your Mum would love to discover with you this Mother’s Day.

Treat Mum to a Bellroy wallet this Mother’s Day – but make sure she doesn’t need to use it! Shop here!

Rimutaka Forest Park

beach view

The view that greets you as you head to Corner Creek Campground in the Rimutaka Forest Park is something that will stay with you and your Mum for years to come. If secluded, tranquil, raw scenery is your Mum’s thing – you can’t beat this little slice of Kiwi heaven. There is no0 signal, you need a 4 wheel drive and you’ll definitely need to bring your own food and water! I don’t want to give too much away, but what I found here was pure joy. Pure discovery. I know that having your Mum by your side would make discovering the Corner Creek Campground and Palliser Bay a once in a lifetime experience for all.

Take everything with you in a new duffel from luggage.co.nz. Shop here!
