Why Did My Suitcase Come Without a Key?

Why Did My Suitcase Come Without a Key?

SavannahxWed Feb 03 2016

Have you recently purchased a new suitcase from luggage.co.nz and wondered where the key to your TSA lock is? We get phone calls all the time from concerned customers asking this very question, so fear not you are most certainly not alone!

The reason your lock doesn’t come with a key is because it is a customs approved TSA lock, these specific locks do not come with a key. They are locked by the combination you choose and set. The keyhole that you see is what makes these little bad boys so great – customs officials are the only people that have the master keys that fit all of the locks, this means if they need to check your luggage for any particular reason (something suspicious has scanned through or the sniffer dogs detect a trigger scent), they can do so without breaking or damaging your suitcase! Nifty huh?

TSA locks are mandatory for travel to and within the US, you can purchase luggage with the locks built in or purchase the lock separately – either way just ensure you don’t forget your combination because the only way to reset a TSA lock is to replace the whole lock!

Even if you’re not travelling to a destination that requires a TSA lock we highly recommend them for safe and secure travel! We have a wide array of hard and softside suitcases and mobile offices with built-in locks available over on our website so you don’t have to worry about purchasing separate locks!

If you’re looking for tips to help you set your TSA lock head over to our other post here: https://www.luggage.co.nz/blog/how-to-set-a-built-in-tsa-lock/
