Go on a virtual trip to Bali, Indonesia

Go on a virtual trip to Bali, Indonesia

SavannahxMon Aug 30 2021

During New Zealand’s second lockdown, I have begun to reminisce about all the travel plans that I have shelved away and postponed. I distinctly remember dreaming about a Bali getaway before the first wave of Covid hit…my heart was set and my bank account was ready. Bali seemed to be the go-to holiday destination amongst my Facebook and Instagram friends during this time of my life and I was definitely encouraged by their rave reviews. I saw countless pictures of the Ubud Monkey Forest or incredible pictures on the Bali Swing. Although Bali is currently closed to tourists, we can still appreciate this beautiful place and all the wonderful things it has to offer. Dreams are free, remember? So come with me on a virtual trip to Bali and see it for yourself!

Let's talk about Bali food...

Bali is well known for its inexpensive food and generous portions! These cafes serve up gorgeous Island style food including acai bowls, pancakes and smoothies bursting with flavour and colour. All their food is extremely photo-worthy too, so you won’t be judged for taking a cheeky photograph before chowing down. After some pretty extensive internet research, I have compiled a list of the most popular cafés to visit when in Bali.

  1. CRATE Café
  2. Sea Circus
  3. Kynd Community
  4. Nalu Bowls
  5. Café Organic

Visit the monkeys!

Have you even visited Bali if you haven’t visited the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary? It’s not every day you get to be up close and personal with monkeys… not where I am from anyway! It is only 10 minutes away from Ubud centre and is filled with hundreds of wild Balinese long-tailed monkeys. There are also three temples located within the forest too, alongside intricated statues. In New Zealand, close encounters at the zoo can cost hundreds of dollars. However, the Ubud Monkey Forest only costs 5 USD, which equates to around 7 NZD. An absolute bargain if you ask me!

Not into Monkeys? How about Elephants?

The Mason Elephant Sanctuary in Bali is a beautiful place to visit if you are an animal lover. This sanctuary prides themselves on treating the Elephants with kindness and care, creating a warm atmosphere as soon as people enter the premises. They offer a variety of different experiences for their guests, including elephant riding, washing, feeding and entertainment. You can even stay at the Mason Elephant Lodge if you would like to spend the night. What is cool about this lodge, is that the balcony overlooks the elephants, making it a truly unique experience. Reach new heights in Bali
